Day 12: Sat 30 Mar 24 - Norseman to Salmon Gums

Image
Sat 30 Mar 24 - Norseman to Salmon Gums (98km) 17 Deg at 06:00 in Norseman, climbing above 30 Deg for most of the day, reaching 35 Deg at Salmon Gums. No wind.  I started the day with an early walk through the town, and it was dead - not a soul to be seen, and not one business open. We had been undecided about staying at the free camp in Norseman for the weekend (no power and tomorrow being Easter Sunday there would be no businesses open), or trying for something a little closer to Esperance where we have booked for 4 nights in a caravan park from Monday. Wikicamps helped us identify the Community Caravan Park at Salmon Gums, almost half way to Esperance. With rising temperatures and availability confirmed at a very affordable $20/nt with power and water, it was an easy decision. With only a short distance to drive, there was no hurry to get away. We needed to buy a few groceries and refuel before we left, and I also wanted to see a bit more around Norseman.  After breakfast, we went f

Day 11: Fri 29 Mar 24 (Good Friday) - Madura Pass to Norseman

Fri 29 Mar 24 (Good Friday) Madura Pass to Norseman (530km) It was 14 Deg with a very slight SE breeze and a light dew, reaching 32, clear and sunny with no wind at Norseman. It was a lovely morning, and a nice change waking to early daylight, so we took the opportunity to get on the road earlier than usual. Today was a long haul, 530km along very good road, but with not a lot to see. We were amazed at how green the countryside was, and particularly so around Madura. This is clearly a reflection of all the recent heavy rain had in the region. One other observation from our trek across the Nullarbor, is despite the various Camel, Kangaroo, Wombat, Cattle and Emu warning signs, we did not see any roadkill. Disappointingly, Noeleene went another day without spotting a camel (dead or alive). The traffic today was well spread out, and the majority was Heavy Transport Trucks and caravans - all well behaved, and surprisingly a lot of three-wheeled motorbikes.  We also spotted a couple more cy

Day 10: Thu 28 Mar 24 - Bunda Cliff (Camp 2) to Madura Pass

Thu 28 Mar 24 - Bunda Cliff (Camp 2) to Madura Pass (350km) Total Trip Towed:  2,624km  Total Trip Driven:  2,698.6km  Total Trip Avg Fuel: 16.4 l/100km   14 Deg at the Bunda Cliffs with winds blowing off the scale overnight. By 07:40 at day break the winds subsided to a gentle 20km/h. It was a foggy morning, clearing to a magnificent clear 27 Deg and sunny day with only moderate winds at Madura.  Apologies upfront for all the photos, it was an amazing day with wonderful vistas at every turn, and I couldn't help myself, and I thought I should share. I merged all of my photos from the IPhone, Drone and Digital Camera, and I can't remember exactly where I took each of the coastal photos, so descriptions are a bit light on detail.  After a very restless night being buffeted by the wind, we finally stepped outside after sunrise at 07:40. By the time we caffeinated ourselves and got mobile, it was 08:45 before we left the clifftop camp. First stop was Scenic Lookout No 1 about 25 km
